What Is Life Coaching?

The quick answer is anyone who wants to make changes in their life and is committed to making them happen. Some of the areas where Life Coaching can be beneficial include:

  • you're unhappy in your current job but you're not sure what else you could do

  • you're lacking in confidence

  • you've reached a crossroads and don't know what way to turn

  • you never feel contented

  • you're not happy with your health and fitness but never seem to manage to improve it and you don't know why

  • you want to improve your work life balance

  • you're heading towards retirement and don't know what you'll do with your time

  • you don't have as much fun as you would like in your life

  • you want to improve one or more relationships in your life

  • you're struggling with one of many changes that children bring to your life, such as returning to work or empty nest syndrome

  • you're not very good at managing your finances

  • you know you're capable of so much more, but you don't know what

Life Coaching is a one to one, non-judgemental, guided process with a partner, your Life Coach. Your Life Coach will provide you with space, time and encouragement to work out what you want from your life and, most importantly, how you can get it.

Your Life Coach can’t change your life for you, but using strategies and techniques they will work with you and, if necessary, help you to overcome obstacles that may have previously prevented you from getting what you want. A Life Coach is not a counsellor or a therapist – these professionals would work with you to understand and make sense of your past in order to resolve what is affecting you today. A Life Coach takes stock of where you are now and looks towards the future with you and the specific goals you want to achieve.

Your Life Coach will work with you to:

  • Enable you to be clear about what you want (you have "infinite" possibilites)

  • Ensure you consider all possible ways and options to achieve your goals

  • Overcome any obstacles preventing you from achieving your goals

  • Suggest strategies and techniques to move you forward

  • "Bridge" the gap from where you are to where you want to be

What About Coaching in Businesses?

Coaching can be incredibly helpful in business. As any business leader knows, there are often not enough hours in the day and irrespective of how much you want to focus on the softer skills around managing your team, this can be time consuming and usually the first thing that is forgotten under busy and stressful circumstances. And yet having a happy and motivated workforce has been proven to have a direct impact on productivity* - in other words, your bottom line!

Offering Life Coaching to your team demonstrates that you are invested in their motivation and happiness and in turn can result in improved commitment, positive attitudes, improved staff retention and reduced absences and complaints.
